A 126.76ct diamond ‘The Light of Peace’ will be unveiled at Christie’s New York auction, valued at $15 million

On June 7th, a 126.76ct water droplet shaped bright cut diamond – “The Light of Peace” – will appear in Christie’s New York Jewelry Spring Auction. The diamond has been identified as a Type IIa diamond with a D-color and IF clarity. The estimated value is as high as $10-15 million.

 

The “Light of Peace” diamond weighed 435ct before cutting and polishing, and was purchased by American jewelry retailer Zale Corporation in 1970. After cutting, a total of 13 finished diamonds were obtained, with “The Light of Peace” being the largest one, and the other 12 weighing from 0.37ct to 9.11ct.

The second highest priced item in this auction is a 3.10ct blue diamond ring, with a pillow shaped and improved bright cut main stone. It has been identified as Fancy Vivid Blue Brilliant Blue and VS2 Clarity, with a clear and bright color; The third highest evaluated item is a Myanmar sapphire necklace pendant, with the main stone being a pillow shaped Myanmar unburned sapphire weighing 71.27ct, reaching the “Royal Blue” level, with an estimated value of 3-5 million US dollars.

Among the works of jeweler and designers, the most striking one is an emerald diamond necklace customized by Chaumet for the Rothschild family in Europe in 1930, which is inlaid with 9 colorful Colombian emeralds, the largest of which weighs 10.28ct; The most visually impactful piece is an É toile de Mer ruby starfish brooch designed by Spanish artist Salvador Dali in 1950, which was exhibited at the American Museum of Natural History in 2021.

The main stone is a 2.97ct angled rectangular improved bright blue diamond, identified by GIA as Type II b diamond, reaching the Fancy Vivid Blue color level and VS1 clarity level. Made of platinum.

Lot 122 ‘Emerald Necklace, by Chaumet, 1930

Valuation: 2-3 million US dollars

A total of 9 square cut emeralds are embedded, with weights of 10.28ct, 7.76ct, 4.31ct, 4.19ct, 3.81ct, 3.65ct, 3.58ct, 3.08ct, and 2.96ct, respectively. Inlaid with diamonds, the necklace is made of platinum.
