China has successfully synthesized a new material capable of destroying diamonds.

On August 14, 2021, a reporter from Xinhua News Agency synthesized a new amorphous material (AM-III) from one of the state main laboratories, Yanshan University Semi-Stable Materials Preparation Science and Technology Institute. Learn how I succeeded . . . Amorphous materials, also known as vitreous materials, are large-scale solids. Glass, which is often used in people’s lives, is a common amorphous material.
According to experts, the density of AM-III is comparable to that of diamond. and the Vickers HV hardness of up to 113 GPa is capable of destroying single-crystal diamonds. Thus, it is the hardest and strongest amorphous material ever discovered.

It is worth noting that:
Diamond is the hardest mineral in nature. It has Mohs hardness 10 according to the Mohs hardness scale. The biggest difference between grade 9 and grade 10, grade 10 diamond hardness is 150 times that of grade 9 corundum, it is 1000 times the hardness. Grade 7 quartz.
The hardness of diamonds is very high. But the hardness of diamonds is anisotropic and varies depending on the direction. in other words The hardness of each surface is different. And the surface hardness 001 may not be the highest.
