The American Jewelry Design Council has just announced the results of the first “AJDC Jose Hess” Design Award. The theme of this year’s design is “Connection”, a Chinese designer. Baiyang Qiu won the final prize with a gold dandelion-themed brooch called “Childhood Dream VI”.

The AJDC Jose Hess Design Award was established in memory of Jose Hess, the late founding member of the American Jewelry Design Association. A total of 80 entries were selected, producing 6 shortlisted works and 1 best work.

The Childhood Dream VI gold brooch designed by Baiyang Qiu is inspired by the “dandelion” of childhood. It uses gold and platinum filaments to interweave the light silky flower ball of dandelion. The top of each filament is inlaid with diamonds, and there is gold interlaced between the filaments. Wrong. This work is not only vivid and interesting, but also cleverly expresses the interlaced ties in the world, which is in line with the design theme of the competition.

Another eye-catching shortlisted work is the Celestial Symphonies Opal necklace submitted by American designer Marianne Hunter. The name of the work is translated as “Symphony of Heaven”, inlaid with white Opal from Australia, Ethiopia and Peru. With transparent Opal, decorated with Paraiba tourmaline, diamonds and pearls, the natural colorful change of gemstones is cleverly integrated with colored enamel and gold foil to create a dreamlike visual light and shadow.
