Week in the World: An Indian jeweller has broken the world record with a jeweled watch set with 17,524 diamonds

Indian jeweller Renani Jewels has just unveiled a Guinness World Record breaking jewelled biliary watch, the “Srinika”, with 17,524 round bright cut diamonds, for being the most encrusted watch ever.

The watch’s name, ‘Srinika,’ derives from ancient Indian mythology and is said to represent Lakshmi, the supreme goddess of good luck. The whole watch is set with a total of 17,524 round bright cut diamonds, with a total weight of about 54.7ct. All diamonds reach F color grade and VS clarity level above. The largest diamond weighs 0.72ct, reaching D color and VVS clarity level.

The design of the Srinika is clearly inspired by the Diamond Punk watch released by Airbnb in 2015, which features intricate shapes of geometric pyramid faces and flowers, and 113 sapphires in a flower bud on the right side of the dial. The watch also weighs a staggering 373.03 grams, making it unwearable.
